The meeting “La Malattia Drepanocitica - nuove sfide e prospettive in Italia con le raccomandazioni della Commission di Lancet Haematology” will be held in Rome on 20 November 2023 at Sala Zuccari, Palazzo Giustiniani.
In July 2023, Lancet Haematology published a special issue focused on Sickle Cell Disease including a document “Defining Global Strategies to improve outcomes in sickle cell disease: a Lancet Haematology Commission” with 12 recommendations aimed to encourage governments to undertake urgent actions to provide patients with sickle cell diseases with basic healthcare services. Sickle cell disease is a rare disease among blood disorders, with high mortality, high healthcare burden and disability.
Considered its active involvement in research projects and awareness activities in the field of haemoglobinopathies, including sickle cell disease, Fondazione Gianni Benzi supports the event widely. It will be the occasion to sum up the situation in Italy and discuss the implementation of the recommendations at national level.
