The meeting “I tumori rari: sfide ed opportunità”, organised by Associazione Bottega del Sorriso, IRCCS Istituto Tumori "Giovanni Paolo II” Bari and Fondazione Gianni Benzi Onlus, will be held on 23 February 2023 at the conference room at IRCCS Istituto Tumori “Giovanni Paolo II” in Bari.

The event is one of the initiatives promoted in occasion of the Rare Disease Day 2023.

A later diagnosis, shortage of therapeutic options and treatments fragmentation make the rare cancers prognosis worse than less frequent cancers.

Treatment of rare cancers requires specific professional skills in specialized centers able to ensure a prompt, multidisciplinary and high-profile clinical management, besides a cooperation at national and international level.

The event is an opportunity to meet and to discuss among all the actors involved in the management of rare cancers and diseases: doctors, researchers, patients and their families, institutions, companies.

This meeting is then aimed at underlining the value of cooperation among the stakeholders in order to meet patients’ needs and improve the healthcare assistance organisation as well as scientific research.
