7th European Association of Health Law (EAHL) Conference
Fondazione per la Ricerca Farmacologica Gianni Benzi is partner of the 7th European Association of Health Law (EAHL) Conference“Innovation & Healthcare – New challenges for Europe”, under the patronage of the Council of Europe. In this context, the Foundation organises the workshop “Innovative medicine and research: ethical, legal and regulatory issues”.
The EAHL Conference that will take place in Toulouse (25-27 September at Hotel Dieu St Jacques) will discuss the adequate legal, ethical and regulatory frameworks in which innovative medicine, access to health care and innovation, e-health and data protection, intellectual property, patients empowerment and involvement in innovative health care, have to be tackled in order to assure the highest societal interest and the human rights protection. To this aim, within this conference, the Council of Europe will also develop a workshop on the application of human rights principles in biomedicine and bioethics. According to the European Research Agenda 2010, healthcare innovation should not only be assessed from a scientific perspective, but also in the wider context whereby clinical benefits, economic/health-outcome improvements and the respect of patient’ rights are demonstrable and rewarded appropriately. Also the use of digital health information, medical records, personal data and ICT interrogate their further use notably in research and how they will be regulated.
Thus, guidance and regulation must be continuously adapted and updated to allow the development of innovative clinical solutions and more complex therapeutics.
The Gianni Benzi Foundation Workshop will deal with the theme of innovative medicine and research including Advanced Therapies, machine learning managing health data, access policies, translational research, vulnerable populations. The workshop is coordinated by Annagrazia Altavilla, EAHL Board representative and member of the Benzi Foundation Scientific Committee, and it is organised as the XII Foresight Training Course.
