The Gianni Benzi Pharmacological Research Foundation is a registered "not-for-profit" Scientific Research Organisation, founded on the 9th November 2007.
The mission is to contribute to advancing pharmacological research in those fields where the scientific heritage of Prof Gianmartino Benzi is more prominent: pharmacological research, European Regulatory Sciences and the promotion of an ethical and safe use of pharmaceutical products, including the fight against doping.
These are sectors which are in full and constant development, making it all the more important that the Foundation carries forward its studies and activities in the direction already mapped out by Professor Gianni Benzi.
Pharmacological research
In this sector, the activities of the Foundation are directed to strengthen research, also by individual researchers, into new pharmaceutical products and new mechanisms of response. This research focuses on the treatment of pathologies which have until now received little or no attention (rare diseases) or on populations which are at the moment almost without pharmaceutical products suitable for their specific needs and characteristics (drugs for paediatric populations).
Regulatory Sciences
An European Pharmaceutical System, of which the EMA represents the cornerstone is the natural vehicle through which to define the rules and tools necessary to promote the innovatory characteristics, efficacy and safety of pharmaceutical products but also to encourage the application of correct procedures and ensure equality of access to all European citizens. This includes those categories of citizens which are often neglected, such as carriers of rare diseases and the paediatric populations.
Today, experts in Regulatory Affairs must face the challenges of human research, with the effects of new advanced therapies (gene and cell therapy), and the uncertainties and problems of safety which arise from them which have an ever increasing need of constant revision and training.
